Wordless Wednesday – Rainbow after the Storm

qqll rainbowqq rainbow

It’s been raining quite frequently recently and both the dogs and I are getting cabin fever. I’ve been feeling quite frustrated with the wet weather, even though I know that California needs the rain, but the dreariness of the skies keep my spirits down. But yesterday after a huge downpour, the sun came out for a couple of minutes and suddenly, a rainbow appeared. It feels like a slice of hope. The dogs were napping but I woke them up and made them go out to the wet patio to pose for photos. They weren’t very happy about it, hence the stink eye, but I gave them treats after.

Sometimes it’s not the weather. Sometimes it’s life that get you down. But no matter what, if you hold out long enough, one usually do see hope. It’s not much – the rainbow lasted for about 30 mins before the skies turned dark and grey again – but it’s enough to lift the spirits and let us tell ourselves – spring is coming!

Is it just me, or do this photograph remind anyone of American Gothic? If I had better photoshop skills, I’ll photoshop a pitchfork in. It must be the pouty look on their faces. Although I seriously do not know why they are so sulky. We were in the middle of a long walk at Lovers Lane (oh, the irony).

Wordless Wednesday – Fireworks

So July 4th happened, and there were fireworks.

This was our first July 4th with Chyler. We didn’t think much about it, mostly because QQ isn’t affected by fireworks at all. And Chyler tends to be more mellow than QQ.

Also, in the weeks leading up to July 4th, we’ve heard random fireworks going off. Chyler seemed a little agitated, but all she did was run up to the loft where the husband usually works.

On July 4th, we decided to watch a movie in the evening. As the skies darkened, the fireworks started. We are about 5 miles away from where the city sets off the fireworks. It wasn’t especially loud, but the popping noises were pretty distinct. Chyler started to look agitated. She ran around the house searching for a perfect hiding spot. She tried hiding behind the TV, in the corner behind the fireplace, in the closet upstairs in the loft and finally decided on the below spot.

Yep. Apparently this is the safest spot in the house. Behind the porcelain throne. We tried holding her “thundershirt” style and we tried wrapping her in thick blankets. But she’ll struggle to run back to the perfect spot she found. Finally we decided to let her be, until it was time for bed. Then we coaxed her out and crated her. She never made a squeak though, and quickly settled down on her blankets in the crate.

The next day on July 5th, we heard more fireworks go off. The moment I heard the fireworks, I searched for her. And low and behold, I found her in her perfect hiding spot again. I didn’t want her to make a habit of this, so I closed the bathroom door and set her on the bed. She stayed there for awhile and looked comfortable. Then I left the bedroom to get a drink of water and when I returned, I couldn’t find her anywhere. I searched high and low, and finally found her here.

She managed to squeeze herself into the small cabinet next to the bed. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry…

Meanwhile, during all this drama, where was QQ?

Yep. Spread out in the middle of the living room, wondering why we were making a fuss over some popping noises.

These two are so different I wonder how they can be considered to belong to the same species! Did anyone else experience similar drama or non-drama during the 4th?

Wordless Wednesday – Nor Cal Corgi Con

Last weekend, we crashed the Nor Cal Corgi Con held at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. It was soooo much fun! I was a little embarrassed thinking QQ and Chyler will stand out among the sea of corgis, but nobody bat an eye. And the dogs naturally did not give a hoot as to whether QQ and Chyler are corgis or not. QQ ran himself ragged with a bunch of corgis that enjoyed the water as much as he did. And after, we had fun watching the corgi races. We even met a fellow Japanese Spitz!

Wordless Wednesday

We met two cute Poms on a recent beach trip. The humans was ecstatic as the humans love Poms. The Poms though seem way more interested in Chyler. This photo crack me up – it looks like our pretty girl needs to learn how to fend off unwanted attention!

Wordless Wednesday – Spring Flowers

spring flowers

Spring wildflowers are dying but we were lucky enough to still see some on a weekend hike.

I love the way Chyler is looking at QQ in this photo! It’s been approximately half a year since we adopted Chyler and I really think the relationship between Chyler and QQ has grown by leaps and bounds. They don’t play together often, but they cuddle. QQ lets Chyler eat out of his bowl, even to the extent of eating food he really love. In fact, we have to watch Chyler to make sure she doesn’t overeat! When feeding treats, if we look at QQ and say “This is for Chyler”, he’ll sit back and let Chyler take it. Chyler looks for QQ often, and sometimes prefers to stay in the same room as QQ even if both humans are in another room. QQ can still be a jerk and he sometimes deliberately run and knock Chyler over. But it’s like how a brother can be a jerk. Chyler chases him away and doesn’t take any of his nonsense. QQ’s separation anxiety has improved a lot since they build up a relationship. We can leave both of them alone for up to 30 mins and they remain calm. All in all, we are really happy with the bond they are building. Two dogs may not always be better than one, but in our case, we are grateful for our little girl and the way she adds to our family. #multipetmania
